Last Wild Places

Documentary Film Series

Overview

Last Wild Places harnesses the power of National Geographic’s storytelling to inspire the protection of 30% of the planet by 2030. Through stunning imagery and intimate character studies, this series of short films takes viewers inside the world's most ambitious efforts to protect our last remaining wilderness areas, and showcases the spectacular places and inspiring people at the heart of large-landscape conservation in the 21st century.

The films were published as companion pieces alongside National Geographic Magazine articles and used to convene key stakeholders and decision makers. Over 2 million collective views stimulated fundraising, stakeholder engagement, media interest and momentum for the global 30x30 campaign.

Iberá National Park

Iberá National Park in northeastern Argentina is part of one of the largest wetlands in South America, but much of its wildlife went extinct in the 20th century due to widespread hunting and habitat loss. Now, a dedicated team of conservationists is working hand in hand with local communities to reintroduce many of the keystone species that were lost, while also helping to preserve the region's unique cultural heritage.
